Museum owner Aaron Piper was transformed by the Moonstone Amulet into the Spookman. While wearing the amulet, Spookman gains the ability to travel through time. Piper and his British assistant Crispin X use the amulet's power to go to ancient Rome to retrieve a valuable statue. While there they meet Emperor Nero who decides to see if Spookman could be a gladiator. The Emperor sends his best fighter Marco to battle Spookman. He defeats Marco and Nero offers him whatever prize he wants. Crispin informs the emperor that they wished to buy a statue and offered to pay thirty bucks. However when Nero doesn't know what money is they give him a lighter which he uses to set fire to his curtains. Spookman and Crispin leave for their own time with the statue in hand.

For this organization, Jimmy Christopher fought against America's enemies' efforts to take over America. The enemies were often from countries with fictional names and veiled references to nations such as Germany and Japan. Examples of foes fought by Operator 5 included the Thirteenth Darkness, The Atlantis (a flying fortress), The Yellow Scourge, Zaava, and the Black Menace. In addition to being a secret agent, he was a master of disguise, radio operator, chemist, and weaponry expert. Operator 5 also had two trademarks: a skull ring and a rapier which was kept curled inside his belt.
